The birth threshold signals the first call to initiation.
But this journey begins well before we personally enter the world and take our first breath.
We are threaded to a greater cosmogony that is manifest in our mother’s womb, and woven back through our parents’ egg and sperm, back through the wombs of our grandmothers and their mother’s … webbing us into multitudes of others who share in our ancestry, woven through evolving cultural contexts across time and space, to the origins of the world, and humans from history.

The Rites of the Birth Passage toward Initiation
For this primordial time of pre-language, pre-memory, pre-thought, this immersion will be embedded in experiences of the myth, mythic imagination, body-centred experience, and symbolic and creative exploration.
At the same time, each woman carries a personal womb-time and birth experience, and a personal-familial-cultural history that helped shape how she enters the world.
The wounded-traumatised narrative of therapy culture has encouraged a well-articulated, well-rehearsed story about who we are, where we come from and why we are how we are, ever circling the why-and-how-do-I-heal inquiry.
Instead of rehashing this narrative form, we go into the centre and expand the origin stories, discerning historical fiction from the individual myth.
Each woman re-stories this passage by placing it in the vaster transpersonal space that exists beyond the edges of our skins and within the social and environmental space.
Sharing and having experiences within the group serves the work of collaborative restorying and reconstruction of the rites for initiation, which helps each woman learn to live in this new skin and bring that into her communities.

What did your face look like before your parents were born?
In the Womb Time to Birth Immersion, women will explore the themes of this Age of Emergence as Passage Work — reconstructing the rites of this first and most primordial threshold:
seed, egg, ancestry, karma, origin story, beginning, creation, original face, fate and destiny, genius, gestation, incubation, cocoon, threshold, emergence, going through, first breath, nascent, new life
What to Expect
Across the two days women will explore the themes through personal myth, cultural myths, body, creativity and imagination.
This is not a rebirthing experience but a revisitation of this first archetypal passage and threshold.
Women will experience old and new material through skin, flesh and bone memory. The Immersion experience in totality will help each women bring greater context and detail to this Passage, to restory their origins, and reconstruct the rites for initiation.
There will be ritual, movement, stillness, breathwork, trance, storytelling, art making, dialogue, role play and enactments, and a cleansing and arrival ceremony on the last day.
Active engagement and collaboration with others through dyads, small groups and the whole group is integral.
This is very intentional work.

The Modalities
-
Ritual
Each day opens and closes with ritual, serving as a threshold for this work and signalling that something different is being asked of us.
-
Teaching
Lessons help locate personal experience within a larger, older map. We draw on the 13 Passages, Depth and Archetypal Psychology, and cross-cultural story traditions and mythologies.
-
Trance & Active imagination
Guided journeys that move beneath the linear and logical mind into image, sensation, and symbol. A way of bypassing pattern and fixity.
-
Breathwork
Breath as a portal into body memory and altered states of awareness.
-
Movement
Not performance or exercise, but gentle guided movement, inviting the body into the conversation.
-
Expression
Free writing, image and art-making are used to externalise what might lie beneath the conscious mind. No art experience required.
-
Dialogue - Dyad & Small Group
The group energy is part of the medicine. Structured practices and sharing in pairs, small groups, and the whole group create the communal container so each woman’s story can be witnessed.
-
Ceremony
On the final day, ceremony marks what has changed for each person and the group. It’s a formal acknowledgement of the threshold crossed and the new skin entered.

FAQs
-
Responsibility. You’re responsible for your own experiences, responses and what you take away.
No advice-giving. We’re here to explore, and collaborate, not solve problems for each other.
Cross-pollination. Responding to each other, and building on what’s being shared is encouraged. This is different to advice giving, where experiences can be interwoven, not supplanted.
Perspective-widening. Your experience offers something that might shift how others see. We can’t know the value in advance.
Participation is essential. It is ok to be quiet, take some time to retreat, and regather. But this immersion requires presence and active involvement.
Confidentiality. It’s ok to share your experiences in the outside world while personal details remain protected.

Rites of Passage are the different chapters that women traverse through the course of their life, with each passage acting as a flexible container that holds and guides movement from one phase of life to the next.
Every 7 years, a girl-woman will encounter the threshold to a passage that involves completing particular rites important for that phase of her bio-psycho-social-soul development.
Reconsidering the lifelong journey as a series of chapters, where she becomes initiated into new roles, identities, and purpose, can reorient attitudes away from focusing solely on personal healing and self-empowerment toward something more deeply rooted.
What might look or feel like “crazy”, could be collective grief from this disconnection from the shared journey and proper initiatory guidance.
Initiation is a shared experience witnessed, guided, and situated within a communal archetypal journey. Passage Work is the gradual reconnection to these rites within a collaborative community.
These Passage Immersions collectively, and the Womb Time to Birth Immersion specifically, are where this work begins.
A time and place for women to collaborate and conspire on women’s initiations, locate themselves in the larger arc, and learn how to participate in something that extends beyond their own story.
The Larger Arc: Entering the Work
Womb-time to birth is the first of 13 Passages that girls and women will move through across the arc of their life. As the first Passage, it is the most primordial, acting as the tap root from which each subsequent Passage emerges.
The Crossing the Threshold online course* is a practical offering to help prepare for Passage Work.
This online course can be helpful if:
Rites of Passage work is new to you,
you are unsure and want to build confidence and gravitas to engage in an experiential and collaborative workshop experience, or
you want to establish or reestablish the foundation of themes and practices from my apothecary to help establish your own.
